Making Friends and Understanding Bullying Storybook Leaflet
Your school illustrated
An A5 illustrated (with drawings based on your school) Storybook Leaflet that introduces parents and young children attending your school, to what is, and what isn't, bullying.
If you already have a Starting School Storybook, then we can use the same children in your anti-bullying/friendship Storybook Leaflet.
What is bullying
Illustrations that show what bullying is, for example, saying unkind things, leaving someone out of a game to hurt their feelings, or hurting someone on purpose. The illustration could show a child in your classroom being excluded from a game or an activity that a group of children are taking part in.
What isn't bullying
Then we would talk about what isn't bullying. So, for example, we would say this includes bumping into someone by accident, both wanting to play with the same toy, or playing with other friends. We could illustrate this with an outdoor scene from your school. We would show a child helping another child up and saying sorry for not looking where they were going, and we could also show a teacher helping children to take turns with a toy or piece of equipment.
How to stop bullying
We could then talk about what we can all do to stop bullying. So we would talk about being kind, and gentle, taking turns and sharing, saying sorry if you have hurt someone, and looking out for children who may be feeling lonely. We would illustrate this be showing a group of children playing.
The issues featured were developed from our pupil feedback during Anti Bullying Week, so are directly dealing with real pupil concerns. All parents and children will definitely benefit from this wonderful tool. It shows our families that we care!
