Infant Reception/Nursery Ready Storybook: helping your parents to get their child ready for reception or nursery

It’s much easier to settle a child into reception class or nursery if they have already learnt certain key skills at home. Our parent-friendly Storybook Leaflet (with drawings based on your school) will help your parents to better understand what skills their children need, and how to equip them with these skills.

The child-friendly illustrations will also encourage children to want to be able to be able to get dressed on their own, or recognise their name etc.

Reception/Nursery ready skills

Our 'Reception/Nursery Ready' Storybook Leaflets highlight the main 6-8 skills you would like YOUR pupils to be able to do before starting in YOUR school. For example, they could be:

  • getting undressed, and dressed independently
  • going to the toilet on their own
  • recognising their name
  • using cutlery
  • sitting quietly and concentrating on a task
  • being familiar with books
  • being able to use a tissue to blow their nose
  • …and we will work with you on what skills you want featured

Illustrated

We will take photos of your reception/nursery class and use them as a guide to illustrate your actual reception/nursery class, with fictional children wearing your school uniform... and these children demonstrating the main skills you need.

Our Reception Ready Storybook is a unique, parent-friendly way to show our parents and carers what their child ideally needs to do be able to do, before starting Reception Class. The Reception Ready Storybook also shows parents how to equip their child with these skills. It’s such a great idea, as having these key skills makes it much easier for Reception Teachers to settle children in to school.

It’s an absolutely brilliant way to make life easier for the parent, the pupil and the school. I’d recommend all schools to contact Stoneworks Education, as I think all schools should have such a Storybook
