Reception Ready: helping your parents to get their child ready for reception or nursery

It’s much easier to settle a child into reception class if they have already learnt certain key skills at home. Our parent-friendly booklet (with drawings based on your school) will help your parents to better understand what skills their children need, and how to equip them with these skills.

The child-friendly illustrations will also encourage children to want to be able to be able to get dressed on their own, or recognise their name etc.

Reception Ready skills

Our ‘Reception Ready’ booklets highlight the main 6-8 skills you would like YOUR pupils to be able to do before starting in YOUR school. For example, they could be:

• getting undressed, and dressed independently
• going to the toilet on their own
• recognising their name
• using cutlery
• sitting quietly and concentrating on a task
• being familiar with books
• being able to use a tissue to blow their nose
• …and we will work with you on what skills you want featured

Illustrated

We will take photos of your reception class, and use them as a guide to illustrate your actual reception class, with fictional children wearing your school uniform… and these children demonstrating the main skills you need.
