Starting PRU/SEMH Storybooks and Comics: HEAD SAYS, "excellent family-friendly approach to reassuring parents and children"

An A5 or A4 illustrated (with drawings based on your school) Storybook or Comic that introduces children and young people to starting at your PRU/SEMH school.

Storybooks are for primary provision, and Comics are for secondary provision.

Drawings of your school

We would illustrate your PRU/SEMH... highlighting the story of two-three fictional children who start and how they become friends and experience the first few days at your school. We reflect their key concerns and worries in each story.

These Storybooks and Comics help allay fears and explain what happens at your PRU/SEMH school.

Transition

To aid with transition, the Storybooks and Comics would be given to families who are due to start at your school - usually five-six weeks beforehand - and be read by parents to the child or young person 3-4 times a week...or read by the child or young person themselves.

This repetitious reading helps to familiarise the child or young person with your school, helping to dispel anxiety and make them excited.

Can be printed, or supplied as a web ready pdf or digital flipbook (see Storybook flipbook example here).

The below is only a small selection of PRU/SEMH Transition Storybooks and Comics.

Jeanette Maynard Head Teacher, Hawkswood Primary PRU & SEMH
As a PRU we have new pupils starting all year round. Pupils and parents typically have negative pre-conceptions about our school and these books have helped to make the difficult conversations that referring schools have with parents a little easier as they have something ’concrete’ to show them which explains what we do. Stoneworks were very patient and understanding with us in creating a very personalised book that defined our two discreet niche provisions and was written with a specific audience in mind.
