EYFS Unit Starting School Storybook: joint nursery and reception in one book

HEAD SAYS, "excellent family-friendly approach to reassuring parents and children"

An A5 illustrated (with drawings based on your school) Storybook that introduces young children to starting at your nursery and reception class These books cover both nursery and reception in one Starting School Storybook... either as an EYFS Unit or by combining both provisions.

Drawings of your school

We would illustrate your nursery and reception class... highlighting the story of three fictional children who start in your nursery and reception classes and how they become friends and experience the first few days at your school. We reflect their key concerns and worries in each story.

These Storybooks help allay fears and explain what happens at school.

Transition

To aid with transition, the Storybooks would be given to young children who are due to start at your school, usually five-six weeks beforehand, and be used to settle them in and help deal with any anxiety. The parent would read the Storybook 3-5 times a week to the child.

Marketing the school

The Storybooks can also be used to market your school from Sept: available on your website as an e-book, handed out to families through feeder nurseries, distributed to local estate agents as a resource for families new to the area, and available to pick up from local supermarkets, surgeries, hairdressers, libraries etc.

Can be printed, or supplied as a web ready pdf or digital flipbook (see Storybook flipbook example here).

The below is only a small selection of Starting School Storybooks that combine both nursery and reception in one Storybook.

New Size: we have recently developed a new, smaller 'budget friendly' Storybook at four pages, see a 'mock up' here.... and our first proper 4 page here for Holy Trinity Primary School. And second 4 page here for Jubilee Wood Primary School.

The Starting School Storybook has delighted both parents and children alike. We have received fantastic feedback with parents telling us that it has supported their conversations about school with their children. One parent explained that their child delights in sharing the illustrations and listing all the other activities available in school. Their child has continued sharing the book long after the first few days have passed. It is a fantastic resource that supports children's speaking and listening skills and helps parents to feel a part of their child's new experiences.
